We are delighted to announce that our beloved, Mexico - retired champion and sometime unicorn - has been assessed and accepted as a Canine Therapy Dog with the Canine Friends Pet Therapy organisation, a New Zealand-wide network of people who share their friendly, well behaved dogs with patients in hospitals and residents in rest homes and hospices.
Mexico passed with flying colors, following his assessment last weekend in Christchurch. While he was waiting for the Canine Friends assessors, he hung out with the SPCA collectors at Wigram New World and helped them take quite a few donations by looking pathetic and homeless whenever anybody with a pocket full of loose change happened by! We had several offers to rehome him!
Kitaco Kennels are so proud of our boy. Pet therapy helps people in care and hospitals who may be feeling isolated and unloved with weekly visits. Mexico doesn't know how to do anything other then bring happiness and joy and we are so glad to have the opportunity to share his love with people in need.
Mexico starts his work in May. We are thrilled to be able to share this most special Chihuahua in such a positive way and show that Chihuahuas - with the right socialization - are as good as any breed for this kind of work.
We did, however, have to Photoshop the official bandanna onto him, as they don't have one small enough to fit him!
