Well, we have finally left behind the bright lights (and hills... so many hills) of Wellington following a very successful National Dog Show Week.
Highlights were, of course, Spenny taking the Best of Breed in the Smooth Coats and Nikita taking Reserve Best of Breed and her 3rd National Bitch Challenge in a row. This was followed by Niki and Narci taking Best and Reserve of Breed in the Sash, Cash and Kai show after Nationals, Narci taking Reserve of Breed in the Wellington Toy Show and Kyrie beating her mum, Niki to the Reserve Bitch Challenge in the same show.
Both the Argentinian Nationals judge and the Australian Toy Show judge took the time to comment on the quality of our Kitaco-bred girls, Kyrie and Tara, which is very encouraging for us.
These lovely pups are the first our ambitious program, working with a number of other amazing breeders both in NZ and overseas, to improve the health, quality and soundness of the Chihuahua breed in New Zealand.
Having a live feed of the shows broadcast on Facebook turned out to be very useful, as it allowed so many people not in Wellington on the day, to see our dogs strut their stuff. We received an amazing amount of great feedback, particularly from outside of NZ that was very gratifying and encouraging.
Spenny also received more than one offer for a romantic entanglement after his big win. Watch this space - there may be a mail-order bride in young Spencer's future!
The trip home proved nearly as eventful as the shows. We stopped in Nelson Park after disembarking the ferry in Picton to let the dogs out for a run before tackling the long drive home, where we were spied by a nearby pre-school who asked if the kids could visit the dogs. Instead of hitting the road, we we spent a lovely hour with the teachers and students of the Picton Pre-School, talking about Chihuahuas and how to handle meeting new dogs, and got a standing invitation to come by for a visit anytime we're in Picton.
Last but not least, we welcomed into the Kitaco family this week, our newest addition - Brydie (aka the Floofinator) Here Cmes Truble Frm Tribble, our very first Pomeranian show girl.
We are so excited for her future in the ring and thanks so much to Trish Tribble from the spectacular Tribble Kennels for trusting us with this very special girl.
