Best in Show for Nikita as Tara announces her arrival with a Baby Puppy in Show

Updated: Nov 25, 2019

The Dominion Chihuahua Club's first specialty open show of 2018 was held on Sunday, June 17 with judge, Jenny Hamilton. We competed the full Kitaco Team (even the retirees). Niki, Narci, Mexico, Misty, Kyrie, Poco, Spencer and little Tara strutted their stuff with the help of all the handlers we could find.

Poco took Best NZ Bred dog in the capable hands of his (actual) owner, Susan Galbraith. Mexico and Kyrie were expertly handled by our star Junior Handler, Charly Houtos, despite her soldiering on through an awful cold on her birthday, Jenny handled Misty, as usual, while Spencer's (actual) owner, Alex Coker, took his boy for a stroll, with both taking Best Junior of Breed, Gloria Gwatkin (owner of Niki and Mexico's sire, Winkles) took her "granddaughter" for spin around the ring, leaving Tracey to handle Narci and his daughter, baby Tara, in her very first show.

So pleased with our Kitaco Team, In addition to a number of minor placing by the rest of the team, Niki thrilled us all with her return to the ring from maternity leave by taking Best in Show. Spencer beat out Misty for Best Junior in Show while Tara showed like a pro and took Baby Puppy in Show in her very first outing.

In the following Ribbon Parade, Team Kitaco made it a clean sweep when we loaned our pet boy, Fat Freddie, to novice handler, 12 year old Sophie, who did brilliantly and managed Best on Parade!

Baron, Tara's brother, also debuted in the Ribbon Parade. He walked 4 whole steps before deciding that was far enough, and just sat there, looking adorable, until we got the message that he didn't want to "show dog" right then.

All in all a great day with lots of laughter, great people and a great time. Wish all shows were as relaxed and as easygoing as the DCC shows.
