Barkzealand is the famed Pet Bark Photography Retreat held in a different exotic location around the world each year. This year, it was hosted by Queenstown on the south island of New Zealand, set against the dramatic Southern Alps. During the 2 week retreat, the participants dive into all aspects of pet photography and the business of running a successful studio, while making new lifelong friendships. Barkzealand is led by three world-renowned teachers and successful pet photographers. and of course, requires fabulous canine models for the photographers to practice on.
We were hired at the recommendation one of the instructors who has worked with our dogs before so Tracey headed off after the Geraldine shows last week with Narci, Benji, and our first and favourite pet Chihuahua, 9-year-old Loki for the gig.
The shoot took place in an old orchard in Cromwell and the photographers went crazy over the chi's particularly Benji, who after the shoot, finally got to meat his forever family who drove up from Invercargill to collect him. He is now settled happily in his new home and already acting as if he's been there all his life.
Thanks to Kathleen and the The Lady of Lawrence B&B for the fabulous accommodation and the great dog handling, too.
We'll post photos here as they are made available. There are some stunning shots of our guys taken by some exceptionally talented photographers. Wish we could do this every year, but it was certainly and honor a a privilege to take part.
