Best in Show for Ava and Best on Parade for Mojo

The last Chihuahua Specialty Championship show for 2023 in NZ was held on Saturday and we are so proud of our Team Kitaco kids. Best in Show and Best NZ Bred in Show was Ava (NZ Ch Kitaco Smashed Avacado), followed by Ben (NZ Ch Kitaco Ben de la Crème), who took Best Junior in Show, Nikita (NZ Ch & NZ Neut Ch Eldivino Senorita Nikita), who took Best Veteran in Show and little Mojo (Let Slip The Dogs Of Warlaven), who performed like a real pro and took Best Baby Puppy in Show!

Tracey also won the award for being the breeder of the Best in Show Winner.

It wasn't just the A Team who rocked it, though. Alice (NZ CH Kitaco Jappy Jalapeño) came out of retirement to beat Narci (Gr Ch, Gr Jnr Ch & NZ Ch Mystic Legion Narcissus (Imp GREECE)) for the Best Open of Breed, and Wendy (Kitaco's Every Breath U Take), fresh off maternity leave, did a fabulous job, considering this was her first official champ show (at age 4!) coming in 2nd in her class after Alice.

What made us really proud though, was the Ribbon Parade that followed. The champions had to sit that out, so it was left to Mojo, Wendy and Zoey to fly the flag and did they ever! Mojo won Best on Parade and Best Baby Puppy on Parade. For some reason, by the second show, he just figured it out and was amazing.

Wendy, handled by her fur mum, Doreen, also hit her stride and took Reserve Best Best on Parade and Best Open on Parade!

And then, Just to top it all off, little Zoey (Kitaco Angel at Heart) - one of Ben's gorgeous daughters - in her very first show, and handled with great aplomb by her fur mum, Hayley, took Best Puppy on Parade!

Once that was out of the way, we had the fun stakes and the Champions came back out to lend a hand with in the Child Handler event. Nothing makes us prouder than when our dogs walk out happily on the end of a lead with a child who has never walked any dog before, so they can particiapte in the show and win a prize. The happy smiles on their faces says it all and to he honest, seeing our show team demonstrating such excellent temperaments in the hands of complete novies, makes our heart swell. This is what our breeding is all about and whenever we hear someone say Chihuahuas are no good with small children... well, we beg to differ.

It's all well and good to win a Best in Show, but having those kids have such a good time does more to promote our breed than a hundred shiny ribbons won in the rarified atmosphere of a Championship Show. So proud of all our Kitaco Team. we are in love with each and every one of them.

Thanks, too, to our dogs' favourite person in the entire universe, Dace, for staying home and babysitting the puppies, so we could go to the show without worrying about the babies while we were away.
