Candy had her very last shows in Baby Puppy this weekend at the Waimakariri Kennel Association Show and she graduated from her class with a bang! 4 shows, 4 Baby Puppy of Breeds, 3 Reserve Best of Breeds and 4 Baby Puppy of Groups!
Despite the windy conditions and the grass that kept making her sneeze her way around the ring, she impressed the judges with her conformation, movement and charm (she’s in the middle of her “uglies” so there is no coat to impress anybody with, ATM). We had comments from several judges about what a lovely baby she is and she had a whole fan club going ringside too, because she is just so ridiculously small and cute.
Her mum, Serena, also did us proud, taking all 4 Best of Breeds, Best Bitch and Best Junior of Breed over the weekend and Junior of Group in the first show.
Ben didn’t let us down either. He took the Best Dog and Best NZ of Breed in all 4 shows as well.
The only slacker of the weekend was Ava. She clearly didn’t like the heat or the wind, and she plodded around the ring with such a lack of interest in the proceedings that even the judge laughingly remarked as he watched her take her sweet precious time to do a lap of the ring, “Did you forget to wake her up, this morning!”.
So even though she took the Reserve Best Bitch and Reserve of Breed behind Serena, we took her home in the lunch break, where she spent the rest of the weekend, reclining in her favourite bed under the air-conditioner.
There is a reason she is known as “Princess Ava”.
A great weekend, all around, with help from the two Debs, who we have dubbed D1 and D2.
D2 had never been to a dog show before so we had a fun weekend trying to explain the rules and marvelling at her breed identification skills, i.e. “Lassie Dog” – Rough Coated Collie, “Mean Guard Dog” – Rottweiler, “Snow Dog” – Samoyed, etc, etc.
Thanks to the Waimak committee from some great shows, but I think you need to have words with whoever ordered the weather. 😊
