What a Weekend for Team Kitaco!

2022 is shaping up to be a great year for Team Kitaco as we lined up for the first Championship shows in the South Island since mid-2021.

Star of the weekend was Ava (of course!), who not only took Best Junior of Group on Saturday at the Banks Peninsula A & P Society Championship Show, but thrilled us when she was walked out in the Top 5 for the Toy Group, under Judge, Cathy-Garvey Webb.

Ava won 3 Best of Breeds over the weekend and on Sunday, under Judge, Anne Dobie, was once again walked out in the Top 5 for the Toy Group.

Team Kitaco also took Reserve Best of Breed in the 2 Champ Shows, Briar (Ava's little sister owned by Casey Walters) taking it on Saturday and Flinty McGinty taking it on Sunday.

Briar also took Puppy of Breed on Saturday and Tinky (owned by Deb Barltrop in her very first All Breeds show), who we bumped up a class so she didn't have to compete against her cousin, Briar, stunned us all when she took Best NZ Bred of Breed in the Sunday Champ show against some stiff competition.

Not content with the shows on offer, the Kitaco Kids also pulled last-minute extra duty in the heats of the Junior Handler competition.

Ava, in the hands of her BFF, Arvia, took 3rd place in a huge field in the 8-11 Year Old class.

When we learned Avia's friend, Amalie, wanted to enter but needed a dog to show, we raced home (fortunately we live nearby) and grabbed our retired Champion, now Therapy Dog, Mexico.

We briefly introduced to him to Amalie, showed him a sausage, and away he went, trotting around the ring in the Junior Handler comp like a pro in the hands of complete novice, who placed a creditable 5th,

Mexico is so bulletproof. He will do anything for a belly rub and a sausage. Love that dog to bits.

Tracey was called out to attend a medical emergency on Sunday afternoon, and Casey, who runs the NZ Chihuahua Rescue, had, well, Chihuahuas to rescue, so it was left to our novices, Tinky and Deb to represent Team Kitaco in the final show of the weekend, where they pulled Reserve Best of Breed and Best Bitch! Go Tinky!

Home now with some very tired dogs and even more tired people, but it was a great weekend and so much fun to see everyone back in the ring. Congratulations and thanks to the Banks Peninsula and Waimakariri show committees for a great weekend of well run shows.
