Serena the Assassin Slays it in the Deep South!

It has been an absolutely crazy start to the year, with Team Kitaco debuting a new Team Member, Kitaco Lipsync Assassin (AKA Serena) at the Gore Kennel Association shows last weekend!

Serena is the daughter of the fabulous Tinky (NZ CH Kitaco Mastermind) and of course, our famous lunatic, Ben, (NZ CH Kitaco Ben de la Crème). Fortunately, she seems much more Tinky than Ben, with her adorable Tinky face and colouring and her mother's wonderfully calm temperament. Her half-sister, Brittany, however, we discovered has Daddy's propensity to squeal, a lot, when anything startles her and coming from a mother we lovingly refer to as Mad Maddie (Kitaco Quantum of Solace), given the adverse weather conditions over the weekend, we decided this was not the time for Brittany to try out being a show dog, for which, we suspect, she was exceedingly grateful,

Serena, however, was born to be a show dog. Day one of the Gore Shows and it was intermittently sunny, pelting down with rain, hail or blowing a gale. 12-week-old Serena trotted out into the ring like she was going for a walk in the park. Nothing bothered her at all, not even a train thundering past on the railway tracks right beside the ring. She took Reserve Bitch and Best Baby Puppy of Breed and then went on to take Best Baby Puppy in Group for both Shows.

Day 2 saw the rain depart, replaced by 80 klm hour winds! We thought Serena might blow away. Neither Ben nor Ava were terribly impressed with the weather (in the last show Ava just stopped and looked up as if to say, "you can carry me, thank you, very much, 'cause I ain't walking in this", LOL.

Serena, however, just showed like a pro, so much so that after taking Reserve Bitch and Best Baby Puppy of Breed in the first show, she went in to beat the whole field of champions (including Ava) and took Best Best Bitch, Best Baby Puppy of Breed and Best of Breed as well!

The judge even apologised to the handler of the Best Dog, saying "I'm sorry, I just have to give it to the baby!". He raved about her on the table, saying what a perfect head she had and how well-balanced she was.

She then went on to take her 3rd Baby Puppy of Group for the weekend.

The others did us proud too. In the Smooth Coats, Mojo took 4 Best Dogs, 4 Best of Breeds and a Puppy of Group.

Ben took a Best of Breed, a Reserve of Breed, 4 Intermediate of Breeds and an Intermediate of Group.

Ava took 2 Reserve Best of Breeds and 4 Best NZ Bred of Groups but got knocked out of Group contention every show by the mighty Felix, the spectacular Grand Champion Pomeranian visiting from the North Island, who was in the same class. We didn't mind though. He is a fabulous dog and it's great to see him in action (and also have a cuddle).

Thanks to the Gore Committee for their fabulous shows, although I think they need to fire whoever is in charge of booking the weather. It was a great weekend, though and we can't to see how Serena develops over the coming show season.
